New Visions Emerging Professions

Course Description
1-year Senior Only program through application process

New Visions Emerging Professions provides high school seniors with the unique opportunity to explore and experience an exclusive category of modern trends in traditional fields, as well as recently created career fields, first hand. Students learn in a classroom located on the SUNY Brockport campus, through traditional methods (lecture, reading, research, writing, and focus study), and through shadowing experiences.
Shadowing
Shadowing experiences are structured observations of professionals and procedures within the designated area(s) of interest; to include but not limited to various businesses and industry, animal hospitals, area schools, and local agencies. These experiences occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year.
Applied Academics
Literacy In Technical Subjects 

• Read and understand complex texts 
• Use evidence to respond to text through classroom discussion and written responses 
• Understand and apply academic and content vocabulary, within knowledge and performance activities 
• Synthesize information from texts and other sources, through written responses

Program Considerations

• Overall B average in all core courses (English, Social Studies, Math and Science) – 9th through 11th grades
• On track for graduation from high school through the end of Junior year
• Demonstrates timeliness and quality of work
• Actively participates in classroom and discussion
• Ability to work both independently and as a team member
• Ability to act in a professional manner both in the classroom and at the shadowing placement sites
• Maintain consistent attendance patterns
• Adhere to district Code of Conduct
• Teacher and School Counselor recommendation
• Display an interest in a specific career field
