Nursing Services at BOCES 2

Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES offers a number of different nursing services, including our School Health Services and Occupational Health Services. 
In addition, the New York Center for School Health (NYSCH) is managed through our BOCES.

About School Health Services

School health personnel are available to meet with the family and staff to provide a plan of care for the well-being of the student in the classroom setting.

  • Health assessments and physical exams (when necessary)
  • Development of IHCP
  • Medication administration
  • Nursing treatments
  • Health education
  • Mandated New York State screenings
  • Community interaction

Who Provides the Service?

School Health Services are provided by experienced nurse practitioners (NPs), registered nurses (RNs), and licensed practical nurses (LPNs). All of our nurses are licensed and certified by the NYS Office of Professions.

Who Gets the Service?

All Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES students from preschool to transition programs are eligible to receive School Health Services. BOCES 2 nurses work in conjunction with the family, classroom teacher, school nurse, support staff, family physician, outside professionals, supervisors and district administrators to help students achieve maximum developmental potential and ensure that health/medical problems create minimal interference in the educational setting.

About Occupational Health Services

The focus of Occupational Health Services is to provide Monroe 2-Orleans employees with comprehensive health and safety education and disease prevention while following OSHA and other regulatory agency mandates. This service is meant to complement School Health Services by facilitating safer classroom and work settings.
  • Immunizations: Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria
  • Screenings: Tuberculin Skin Testing
  • Trainings: Infant/Child/Adult CPR and AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens
  • AED Emergency Response Team and SAVE
  • Resource to component districts

About NYSCSH

Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES manages the New York State Center for School Health (NYSCSH). Since 1992, the NYSCSH has been a contracted technical assistance center of the New York State Education Department. We provide support and assistance, health and education resources, and professional education for School Nurses, School Medical Directors, School Health Educators, and other allied school health professionals. Our mission is to promote the health, learning and overall well-being of all students, thereby strengthening and improving academic performance.
