SLS Update 8/30/2012

This year I will be continuing with sending weekly updates to all the librarians, library staff, and any interested staff and administrators within our region.

1.  Earlier this week Patti Rose sent an email listing usernames and passwords for ALL Digital Resources available through BOCES SLS and Instructional Media.  If you have any questions on this, please let us know.

2.  Over the summer, Olga Nesi presented in our region, Common Core Unit Lesson Planning Using the Information Fluency Continuum.  In conjunction with other area SLS, a September session is now available.  Attached is an updated registration form.  For more information, please visit:

3.  Over the summer updates were made to our InterLibrary Loan System.  There is now the option to request multiple copies of a book from multiple schools.

4.  Recently, MitiNet was purchased for all our schools in the Library Auotmation CoSER.  MitiNet allows libraries the ability to insert Lexile and Fountas & Pinnell levels into the library's catalog, MARC record clean up tools and utilities, and insert "kid friendly" subject headings into records.  The Library Automation Team will be sending out detailed information on this, along with a questionnaire so MitiNet can be tailored to fit the needs of each school and district.

5.  Please review the names of people the weekly update is sent to within your district.  If there are additions or deletions for the Weekly SLS Update, please let Jim Belair know.

6.  The results for the 2011-2012 SLS Annual Evaluation are now published on the SLS website.  To review the results, please visit:

7.  For the latest information from State Ed regarding APPR for librarians, please visit the Common Core Central section of the SLS Website:

8.  This year we are welcoming two new librarians, and one returning librarian to our region: Pamela Bigsby at Spencerport Bernabi School, Adele Mackevicius at Gates Chili Disney School, and returning to Gates Chili is Denise Chilson-Cline at Florence Brasser School.

9. At the end of the school year, we purchased additional Soundzabound Volumes.  The new volumes are sound effects which can be used in any multi-media

presentation.  The volumes include: Scary Soundz, Sports Soundz, and People Soundz.  If you have any questions on using this resource, please let us know.
