Using NYS NOVELNY Online Databases with your students


·         Opposing ViewPoints: Presents both sides of current social issues.  Contains newspaper, magazine, eBook, primary sources, interviews, multimedia....

·         Kids InfoBits: General reference resource for students.  Browse by subject area or search by keyword.  Contains newspapers, magazines, eBooks, primary sources, interviews, multimedia....

o   Great resource for secondary struggling readers

  • Scholastic Go!: A collection of various database specific encyclopedias from Grolier. Most relevant will be:
    • America The Beautiful: state history, people, places and events for elem./MS
    • Encyclopedia Americana: reference information with a strong emphasis on American and Canadian geography and history for MS/HS
    • Lands and People: countries and cultures of the world for upper elem./MS/HS
    • Also contains science, animals, Spanish, multimedia and a general encyclopedia
  • Gannett Newsstand: contains access to the Gannett Newspapers (such as the Democrat and Chronicle). 

o    Use filters on the left to narrow by publication. 

·         eLibrary Elementary: General reference resources for students.  Contains newspapers, magazines, eBooks, maps, pictures, A/V, and transcripts

o   Designed for elementary

o   Good resource for secondary struggling readers

o   Not as visually pleasing, but does have good information

o   Use the “Browse through our list of publications” link
