Students may fulfill entry-level college course requirements via the completion of a WEMOCO course. Individual colleges determine these arrangements and will individually assess students’ ability to take advantage of this option at the time of acceptance and enrollment in their program.
Career and Technical Education Certificates
Students meeting the requirements of a Skills Course completion will receive a Certificate of Completion. The certificate and the corresponding employability profile indicate readiness for entry level employment nationwide in the related industry and/or continuing education in colleges and trade schools at the postsecondary level. Students in the Trades and Services courses receive a Certificate of Participation.
WEMOCO students receive, upon course completion, an Employability Profile which provides a record of the student’s performance on applied skills, those of the trade, and those skills required of employees to be transferable for job seeking and keeping regardless of the career. These Career Foundation Skills are part of instruction and assessment throughout the career and technical education course, and are as integral to student success as are trade skills.
Some courses are approved to offer dual credit to students. In a dual credit course, students acquire Career & Technical Education credit toward high school diploma requirements, and at the same time are eligible to receive transferable college credit. Students pay a reduced tuition for these courses where available. See course descriptions for availability.
Regents Diploma with Career & Technical Education Endorsement
Students who successfully complete the requirements in approved Career and Technical Education Skills Courses will be recommended to their school district to receive a Regents Diploma with Career and Technical Endorsement. This highly respected endorsement reflects the student’s level of excellence and commitment to their academic and career and technical studies. As evidence of this accomplishment, a special seal of this honor is affixed to the student’s Regents Diploma.
Industry Based Assessments
Students in Skills Courses will take an Industry Referenced Assessment. Exams provide information to students and teachers regarding readiness for employment. Passing an Industry Based Assessment is required for recommendation for a Regents Diploma with Career and Technical Education Endorsement.
Licensing and Industry Credentials
Students in Cosmetology and Certified Nurse Assistant are prepared to take the New York State licensing examinations in their respective fields. Other courses offer industry certifications that are recognized as a nationwide standard of excellence in achievement and readiness in the field. See Course Descriptions for more information.
The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) is a not- for- profit education foundation created to help address the critical workforce shortage facing the construction industry and to develop industry-driven standardized craft training programs with portable credentials. WEMOCO uses NCCER exams as their industry-based assessment for some courses.
The National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) is a leading provider of high quality occupational competency assessment products and services to secondary and post secondary educational institutions in the United States and around the world. WEMOCO uses NOCTI exams as their industry-based assessment for some courses.
School to Work Opportunities
WEMOCO supports the provision of student work experiences in industry. The School to Work Office coordinates these opportunities with employers, WEMOCO teachers, and students. The following opportunities are available:
