Occupational and Physical Therapy Services

Occupational and Physical Therapy services are provided to eligible children from age 3-21 in a variety of educational settings.

Occupational Therapy

Provided by an Occupational Therapist (OTR) to address areas of need including:

  • Fine motor and visual perceptual skills which may impact handwriting and other academic areas
  • Sensory processing dysfunction impacting on a student's ability to participate effectively in the educational environment
  • Strength and range of motion
  • Self-help skills
  • Transition skills to be successful in the post secondary environment

Physical Therapy

Provided by a Physical Therapist (PT) to address areas of need including:

  • Gross motor skills such as balance, coordination, and locomotor
  • Gait abnormalities
  • Sensorimotor dysfunction impacting on a student's ability to participate effectively in the educational environment
  • Strength and range of motion
  • Adaptive equipment needs

How are services provided?

  • Children ages 3 to 5 receive services in the home, community site or a BOCES preschool center-based classroom
  • School aged children ages 5-21 receive services within their academic setting. Services may be provided in the classroom, in a small group setting or individually depending on student needs.
