Westside Academy is an alternative junior/senior high school (grades 7-12) designed to meet the needs of students who have experienced academic, behavioral or emotional difficulties in their home districts – students who have been unsuccessful in the larger school setting.
The program strives to meet the academic and social needs of these students in innovative ways while maintaining high academic expectations. Staff works closely with students and their families to deal with issues such as self-esteem, depression, school phobia, anger, drug and/or alcohol abuse and family problems. Westside Academy is small enough to ensure that students receive individual attention to enhance their chances for academic success and a feeling of belonging.
The staff at Westside believes that developing relationships with at-risk students is the first step in helping them change their beliefs about school and learning.
At Westside Academy:
Does our approach work? With graduation rates at 99%, our results tell us we're on the right track, and individual students tell us we're an important influence in their lives. But our real goal -- all statistics, targets and percentages notwithstanding -- is simple and direct: to show each student in our care that learning is not beyond them, and that life holds infinite opportunities.
All visitors must come to the main office to be signed in and provided a Westside escort. Former students are encouraged to visit! Former student visiting hours are from 11:30 a.m. - noon.
Referrals to BOCES 2 Westside Academy come from a student’s home school district. Parents are encouraged to speak with a representative from their child’s district for more information about the referral process.
