The overall program design for Explorations is a package concept and includes a combination of workshops and a residency. All Explorations
programming is building based, and each participating elementary school
selects one, one-week residency and four workshops for the school year.
Schools with student populations over 675 receive extended services
(one six or seven day residency and five workshops). Schools select
their programming priorities from the Explorations Program Offerings Book, which is available each May prior to the school year.
Residency
-
All students have the opportunity to interact with a resident expert many times a week.
-
A
selected target group meets daily with the presenter for more in-depth
study. A culminating presentation is planned for the end of the week.
-
Teacher
resource materials are provided to assist teachers as they prepare
students and extend the residency focus into their classrooms.
Workshops
-
Two-hour workshops are designed for selected students to explore specific topics of interest.
-
Workshops
are designed appropriately for lower primary (K-1st grade), primary
(2nd -3rd grades), and intermediate (4th-6th grades) levels. Workshops
allow for a maximum of 24 students. Lower primary workshops are designed
as two, one-hour programs for 20 students each.

Teacher
resource materials are provided to assist teachers as they prepare
students and to extend the workshop topic into their classrooms.
