WEMOCO celebrates the Career and Technical Education Class of 2020

Recognition celebration

Teachers and staff at the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center found a creative way to recognize the WEMOCO CTE completers this year, altering plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Typically, the ceremony is held at RIT and students cross a stage to receive their certificate in front of an audience of fellow students, teachers and families. This year, due to restrictions on group gatherings, teachers and staff organized a drive-thru celebration for their students.

The event took place over two nights, with recommended drive-thru times for each CTE program. Students were able to drive through the WEMOCO campus with their families, where they were able to say goodbye to their teachers and receive their certificates!

Families received a program upon entering the campus, and then were guided along a route where they passed by teachers and staff decked out with posters and fun celebration decorations. Students and their families were smiling ear-to-ear as they celebrated their students and said goodbye and thank you to the teachers and staff at WEMOCO. Cars were decked out in posters, garland and messages written in window chalk. Horns were honking as families drove through campus.

After receiving their certificates, students were able to stop to take a photo with frames that were decorated according to different CTE Clusters, personalizing the photos of each student. The photos can be found on the WEMOCO CTE Facebook page, so students and families can save them to remember the special night!
