Food wars and s'mores at CTE

Crowd of CTE students having fun

Career and Technical Education students at WEMOCO had fun for a good cause by gathering ingredients for S’mores for the Troops and by donating food items for the Spencerport Ecumenical Food Shelf. All students could participate in this event, dubbed “Food Wars,” by donating to either the Welding or the Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance class.

Originally, there was to be a “winning” and “losing” class, but to celebrate reaching their goal, students got to watch teachers from both classes get doused by a front loader filled with water. It was a very dramatic event – there was a LOT of water. The Heavy Equipment Operations and Maintenance class won the food collection contest. More than 6,800 food items were collected and loaded for delivery to families in need.
The Spencerport Food Shelf will feed 140 families over the winter with these donations.

Food Wars also included the collection of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows for “S’mores for the Troops” that will be shipped to Afghanistan by Brandilyn Gage-Steves.
