NYSESLAT Linguistic Demands Series- Part 2: Speaking
Starting 11/15/2021 at 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM
Event Groups:
• Mid-West RBE-RN - Mid-West RBE-RN Events
Description:
Each year, students identified as English Language Learners take the NYSESLAT to determine their proficiency in English in four modalities. In this workshop, participants will take a close look at what is expected of students in the speaking portions of the test and interact with the NYSESLAT Targets (Targets of Measure). Additionally, participants will look at how this information, combined with knowledge of a student's proficiency level can inform instructional practice. Teachers will be able to sequence speaking lessons in the English as a New Language classroom and better understand the linguistic demands of the speaking portion of the NYSESLAT. This session not only prepares teachers for scoring the NYSESLAT but also helps prepare appropriate learning targets tailored to student abilities and needs.
