Description:
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN ASYNCHRONOUS WORKSHOP AND THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE OPTIONAL SYNCHRONOUS MEETING ONLINE. WE WILL NOT MEET IN PERSON. There will be 8 weeks to complete the course. INFORMATION AND MATERIALS WILL BE SENT THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE START DATE. Bettina Love, associate professor of educational theory and practice at the University of Georgia and Rochester native, argues that educators must teach about racial violence, oppression, and how to make sustainable change in communities through radical civic initiatives and movements. The community must come together to educate children with the imagination, determination, boldness, and urgency of an abolitionist. In this seven-week, summer book study, we will read and engage in discussion on the Schoology platform to expand our ideas of civic engagement and intersectional justice. Participants will need to purchase their own copy of the book and log on/create an account on Schoology to participate.
