Westview students volunteer at Springdale Farm
four students standing next to three pigs on farm
On Oct. 25, Westview staff took two groups of students to Springdale Farms to volunteer. Students helped with chores to get the farm and animals ready for winter. Volunteers stacked wood chip packages on pallets, put feed into containers, swept the barns, and cleaned out the pig pen. After working hard, they were able to tour the farm and watch a cow being milked by a robot. Students were excited to visit the farm, and they saw juniors and seniors working in our CTE classes that are housed there. Each student that volunteered earned hours towards their CDOS, and they were motivated to investigate other CTE classes.

Springdale Farm has been in operation since 1830. The farm, owned by Monroe County and operated as a non-profit organization by Heritage Christian Services, is part of Northampton Park. Springdale Farm is a public demonstration farm that shows modern agriculture technology. While on the farm, visitors can observe many farm animals and interact with them in the petting zoo.
