In a cooperative exchange program within CTE at WEMOCO, students of Exercise Science and Food Services spent time together to share their skills and expertise.

The Exercise Science students developed a lesson to share stretching, stress relieving movements and simple yoga with students from Food Services. The Food Services students shared a lesson when the Exercise Science students came to their classroom kitchen. They instructed the students in the assembly of “power bombs,” a snack that combines protein, good carbs, healthy fats, and high fiber. This easily customizable no-bake treat can contain oats, nut butter, honey, dried fruits, and seeds. This combination of ingredients makes them an outstanding choice for after a workout, or anytime an on-the-go snack is needed. The Exercise Science students had the opportunity to make and take their power bombs.

“Working in the food service industry is very physical. It’s important to start work physically relaxed, and these easy activities help with alertness,” shared Food Services teacher Scott Barnard. “What they learned in Exercise Science we have continued in the classroom.”

“Cooperative projects like this let students put their skills into action,” said Exercise Science teacher Nina Barbero. “It also builds respect, as they are exposed to the expertise of other students.”
