Welcome to our new specialist!

Anna Stukes

Dear Colleagues:
My name is Anna Stukes and I am the newest member of the ELL Professional Development Specialist Team at Mid-West RBE-RN.  I have experience as an ENL teacher in the Rochester City School District (RCSD) and Spanish Language Arts (SLA) coach at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School (EMHCS).  While at the RCSD, I worked with a cohort of transitioning students from the newcomer program to mainstream.  I also worked with the Elementary Team at Rochester International Academy (RIA).  I evaluated students for placement within the program, provided testing support, and professional supports for new teachers.  As the SLA coach at EMHCS, I worked on developing curriculum guides, New York State Seal of Biliteracy, securing materials, evaluating students, creating schedules, and administering assessments.  I worked with a team of coaches to provide weekly grade level meetings to support teaching and learning.  We also provided professional development opportunities on topics and goals established as a community.

I obtained a B.A. in Spanish Literature, Communication Studies and a minor in International Studies through the DELTA Program at SUNY Brockport, and an M.S. in Teaching and Curriculum and the Urban Teaching and Leadership Program (UTL) with Certification in TESOL and Spanish from University of Rochester.  I am passionate about improving education for language learners.  I am bilingual and bicultural as I am a Peruvian American.  I look forward to working with the Mid-West RBE-RN team and many of you!
