New Visions: Health Professions Selection Process

The below factors are comparisons amongst all New Visions applicants for given year.
  1. GPA Ranking (4 core subjects)
    1. Weights as 40%: 8th, 9th, 10th and first two quarters of 11th
  2. Regents Ranking (4 core subjects, as above) (through the January 2025 Regents Exams)
    1. Weights as 10%
  3. Adult Reference Ranking
    1. Weights as 25%
  4. Student Essays (see Essay Rubric below)
    1. Weights as 25%
  5. Attendance Record: Not weighted but considered
  6. Counselor Reference: Not weighted but considered
  7. Disciplinary Record: Not weighted but considered
  8. Extenuating circumstances: Not weighted but considered
A higher rank is better than lower rank. For example, if there are 50 applicants, being ranked 50th is the highest. Overall score = (GPA Rank * 0.40) + (Regents Rank * 0.10) + (Reference Rank * 0.25) + (Essay Rank * 0.25)

Example: If there are 35 total applicants, your rankings may be as follows:
  • GPA: 35th (The best)
  • Regents Exams: 25th (10th best)
  • Adult References: 20th (a little better than the middle score)
  • Essays: 16th (almost exactly the middle score)
Overall score = (35 * 0.40) + (25 * 0.10) + (20 * 0.25) + (16 * 0.25) = 14 + 2.5 + 5 + 4 = 25.5

Your overall score will be compared to the other applicants. Applicants will be selected based on class size (18) and scores, in descending order.

There is no way to predict how many applicants there will be or how you will rank compared to other applicants.
