Assistive Technology Supports and Services at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES are used to ensure the accessibility of communication, instruction and curriculum materials for students with disabilities. Assistive technology reduces barriers, supports progress within educational programs, provides equitable access to learning standards, and supports student independence. Assistive technology can also help increase social and environmental access and completion of everyday tasks.

Who Provides the Service?

The Assistive Technology Department is comprised of a multidisciplinary team that includes:
  • Speech Language Pathologists
  • Special Education Teachers
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Teachers of the Visually Impaired

Who Gets the Service?

Assistive Technology Supports and Services are provided to students from Preschool through Transition and is embedded into each of our BOCES 2 programs. BOCES 2 Assistive Technology Consultants partner with component and non-component districts as coaches to support implementation and use of assistive technology supports.

How Do AT Consultants Provide Support?

  • The Loan Program with District Partnership provides students and staff trial opportunities with various assistive technology devices and software.
  • Support for School Personnel and Families in acquiring medically necessary equipment to support the access of needed assistive equipment and communication supports.
  • Training/Coaching Opportunities for teachers, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, classroom support staff, and families on the implementation of the use of assistive technology supports and tools for students with disabilities.
