$399 badgeThis part-time Electrical Fundamentals for the Construction Trades program will prepare you for many careers in residential and commercial electrical work in just 18 weeks. Using the "learn while you earn" model, our evening class allows you to work while you to work while you're taking classes. In this class, you will gain the fundamental electrical skills needed to begin an electrical career in construction. This program is designed for anyone interested in learning more about residential and commercial electrical systems, for those considering a career change, or for those currently working in an entry-level position and ready to expand their skills in the electrical industry.

Program Requirements:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of TABE entrance assessment
  • HS diploma recommended, not required (note: employers may require a high school diploma)
Tuition: $2,895 (special introductory price of $399 extended for the 2024-25 school year!)
Dates
  • Fall: 9/10/2024 - 1/28/2025
  • Spring: 2/11/2025 - 6/24/2025
Class Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30 - 8:30 pm
Program length: 108 hours in person instruction + 72 hours of online coursework = 180 hours, 18 weeks.

Dress code: Long pants are required. Jeans are acceptable. Wear clothing that can get dirty. No baggy clothing. Sneakers or Boots must be worn. No open toed or heeled (above ½ inch) shoes. Tops must cover the torso (shoulders, waistline, and chest). No dangling earrings, chains, bracelets, or necklaces. Long hair should be pulled back and nails trimmed. Clothing with offensive or inappropriate language is not allowed. Safety goggles are provided and required.

OSHA 10-Hour Safety 
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 10-hour training will help educate workers to predict, prevent, identify and stop possible common worksite hazards, and is required for many industry careers.

 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 70E) Credential
For electricians and other workers whose job responsibilities may expose them to electrical hazards. The coursework explains common electricity hazards, risk assessment strategies and NFPA resources on safe work practices for electrical work.
 
Alarm Technician Level 1 Certification
WNY Electronic Security Association offers this 22-hour online course positions students for most construction jobs where electrical work goes beyond standard system installations to security systems, sprinklers, etc. Industry partners have emphasized this expanded skill set as a required skill for entry level workers!
 
Introduction To Renewable Energy And Fundamental Math For Solar Applications
10-hour program from Solar Energy International including basic concepts behind renewable energy technologies and math skills for working in the industry.

How Do I Enroll?

Admission Procedures

  1. Complete a contact card and register for an Entrance Assessment. Once you submit the contact card, you'll receive an email (check your spam!). Use the link in the email to complete your application and register for an entrance assessment.
  2. Complete an entrance assessment to determine your program eligibility. Your score on the assessment helps determine the level of support you may need to be successful in the program.
  3. Secure funding. Your payment options include:
    • Self-pay
    • Employer pay
    • Tuition assistance options available for those who meet eligibility requirements
