Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Entrance Prep

Course Description: 
Increase your readiness for a local Practical Nursing program. This course is an overview of the subject matter necessary to pass an LPN entrance exam and begin an LPN program successfully. It will include reading, writing, and math skills, as found on area LPN program entrance exams, as well as basic medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology, to give the student an advantage as they begin their program.

Fee: $279/student; funding may be available for eligible applicants
Schedule: Saturdays, 9am – 1pm;

Location: WEMOCO CTE Center, 3589 Big Ridge Rd, Spencerport, NY 14559

Course Content:
-TABE and TEAS Mathematics prep (fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, data analysis, Level 1 Algebra, and Geometry)
-TABE and TEAS Reading prep
-Medical Math (systems of measurement, drug abbreviations, labels and packaging, calculations of doses)
-Basic Medical Terminology
-Writing an LPN application essay
-Local program overview and tips for the application process**

Learning Outcomes: 
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated the ability to:
  • Show competency when presented with entrance exam math and reading comprehension programs
  • Write a clear and effective 3-5 paragraph essay on a subject pertaining to LPN entrance
  • Demonstrate comprehension of basic medical math and terminology

Prerequisites:
  • High school seniors (18+) should be on track to graduate in June
  • For adult students, a high school diploma or equivalent is recommended, but not required
  • Interested students should investigate their LPN program options, including enrollment deadlines and requirements, prior to taking this course.
Successful completion of this course is not a guarantee of LPN enrollment*
