Building life skills for the future at Westview

Student learning woodworking

A visitor to the Professional and Technical Prep Program at Westview in the Department for Exceptional Children will meet focused, enthusiastic students who are learning how to safely use power tools while building life skills and valuable construction/engineering skills. With the help of teacher Matt Ackerman and SBA Doug Van Roo, they are busy setting a foundation for future learning in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) class or simply for tackling projects and challenges around their own homes.

So far this year, students have constructed shelving units, cupboards, picnic tables and more. They are currently in the midst of breaking ground for a new garden - but first had to repair the rototiller. Impressive work!
