The Center for Workforce Development is offering a short LPN Entrance Exam prep course, starting Saturday, April 23.

The course runs from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on five consecutive Saturdays, starting April 23 and running through May 21.

This course provides students an overview of the subject matter necessary to pass an LPN entrance exam and begin an LPN program successfully. It will focus on math skills, as well as reading and writing as found on area LPN program entrance exams. Additionally, it includes basic medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology to give the student an advantage as they begin their program.

Course Content:
•    TABE and TEAS Mathematics prep (fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, data analysis, Level 1 Algebra and Geometry)
•    TABE and TEAS Reading prep
•    Medical Math (systems of measurement, drug abbreviations, labels and packaging, calculations of doses)
•    Basic Medical Terminology
•    Writing an LPN application essay
•    Local program overview and application process

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated, through periodic quizzes and a final evaluation, the ability to:
•    Show competency when presented with entrance exam math and reading comprehension programs
•    Write a clear and effective 3-5 paragraph essay on a subject pertaining to LPN entrance
•    Demonstrate comprehension of basic medical math and terminology

Prerequisites:
•    High school seniors should be on track to graduate in June
•    For adult students a high school diploma or equivalent is recommended, but not required
•    Interested students should investigate their LPN program options, including enrollment deadlines and requirements, prior to taking this course

•    Fee: $350/student; reduced tuition available for those with a NYS Benefit Card or free and reduced lunch
•    Schedule: 5 Saturdays, 9am – 1pm; 24 total hours
